Tiger oefent op Augasta en kritiek op zijn interviews

Vandaag actueel in golf:Afgelopen maandag heeft Tiger Woods een oefenronde gespeeld op Augusta National en dus is zijn voorbereiding op The Masters definitief begonnen. Ook in de afgelopen week heeft Woods veel gespeeld. Twee spelers die veel met hem hebben geoefend, Arjun Atwal en John Cook vertellen hier over het niveau van Woods:

“He is hitting it just fine—he is hitting it longer than before, there is no doubt and he feels like he is not totally ready but I have seen him win with what he has right now, plenty of times. I think he is ready but you know him, until he has every aspect right he isn’t going to go out there.”

Repetitive phrases such as “Buddhism,” “police report,” “personal matter,” “45 days of treatment” and “core values” indicated preparation, which is not surprising given the situation. But the result was that these weren’t so much interviews as they were forums for Woods to frame the story the way he wants the public to view it.”

“Let’s get one thing out of the way. Woods can’t talk about what happened that night when he drove his car into a tree in his neighbor’s front lawn. We all know he got away with something, and he’ll never talk about it. He’s not going to explain why he drove into his neighbor’s front yard in the middle of the night, why he stonewalled police, why his wife smashed the back windows of his car, or why the police suspected he was under the influence. Those are the kinds of answers that could get Woods in real trouble.”

Via Golfweek nog een paar aardige quotes van de winnaar van het Transitions Championship, Jim Furyk. Furyk heeft het onder andere over het feit dat zijn overwinning werd overschaduwd door de interview die Woods recent gaf, zijn kansen op Augusta en zijn afgelopen twee jaar zonder overwinning.

Golf Digest heeft in 2000 eens uitgerekend dat de kans dat twee spelers achter elkaar op dezelfde hole een hole-in-one slaan één op 17 miljoen is. Toch gebeurde het afgelopen zondag bij twee amateurs in San Diego.

In tegenstelling tot Ron Sirak van Golf Digest, die gisteren wegliep bij de Tavistock Cup, was Jason Sobel van ESPN wél bij het evenement aanwezig. In dit artikel beschrijft hij de weelde waarin de deelnemers van het demonstratietoernooi mogen baden:
